It is with great sadness that we learnt that Josh Sweeney-Brown (Y9) passed away last night following his long battle with cancer.

Josh was originally diagnosed with cancer at just four months of age. He repeatedly showed remarkable strength and courage to beat this diagnosis in the years that followed, but sadly it returned again very aggressively in May 2019.

Josh joined Fallibroome in January 2018 and we were immediately struck by his charismatic personality and quick-witted humour. He would have a go at anything, including joining in PE lessons by charging around the astroturf on his wheelchair while screeching with joy with his classmates. Drama was his favourite subject. On one occasion, he created a gangster scene in which he dragged his classmates behind his wheelchair and used his horn as a siren/gun – with everyone laughing and joining in the show!

Josh will be remembered for the joy he brought to us all; his enthusiasm for life; his selflessness; his positivity and his kindness. Despite the many challenges that he faced, his optimism and good humour were remarkable. On one occasion, he told Mr Jones – “Sir – I know I’ve got it bad, but others have it much worse than me”. This was just typical of him.

We know that Josh was exceptionally close to his family and that they are all devastated by his loss. The thoughts and prayers of our whole community are with them at this desperately sad time.
