GCSE Spanish
Exam Board: EdexcelStudents taking Spanish will be able to express themselves in Spanish in a variety of situations, including expressing opinions and describing events and will understand issues relating to young people and society. Topics include: lifestyle; leisure; home and environment and work and education. Lessons will include a range of language, activities, games, films and ICT.
In this area, you will find documentation and links to information and documentation relevant to your GCSE studies.
Assessment
Various KATs will happen during the year, which are sample questions for each topic. These will be done on Google Classroom, and the approximate schedule can be found in the Course Uploads section. Below you will find information on the final exam:

LISTENING
- Final exam in Year 11
- 25% of final mark
- FOUNDATION: 35 mins
- HIGHER: 45 mins
- Some questions in Spanish and some in English.
READING
- Final exam in Year 11
- 25% of final mark
- 10 questions
- 6 questions in English
- 3 questions in Spanish
- 1 translation from Spanish into English
SPEAKING
- 12 mins preparation time
- Task 1 – Role Play
- FOUNDATION TIER 1 – 1min 30 (10 marks)
Students are given a card containing five bullet points.
Students ask one question and respond to one unpredictable question.
Students are only required to use the present tense in this task. - HIGHER TIER 2 – 2mins 30 ( 10 marks)
Students are given a card containing five bullet points.
Students will need to ask two questions and answer one unpredictable question.
Students will need to respond to one question set in the past tense.
- FOUNDATION TIER 1 – 1min 30 (10 marks)
- Task 2 – Picture-based task
- FOUNDATION TIER 2mins 30 – 3 mins (24 marks)
Students are given a card containing a picture and five bullet points in Spanish to help students prepare.
The first question will be directly about the photo.
The other four questions will be about the wider topic. - HIGHER TIER 3 – 3mins 30 (24 marks)
Students are given a card containing a picture and five bullet points to help students prepare for the discussion.
The final bullet point will simply be: !
This means that students will be asked an unpredictable questionStudents may ask for the question to be repeated but teachers are not allowed to rephrase the question.
- FOUNDATION TIER 2mins 30 – 3 mins (24 marks)
- Task 3 – Conversation
- The first part of the conversation opens with a topic chosen by the student.
Students may begin by talking for up to one minute about their chosen topic.
The teacher will then ask more questions about their chosen topic.
The teacher will then move on to the second topic.
The second topic is chosen by Edexcel.
The same amount of time needs to be spent discussing each theme.FOUNDATION: 3 mins 30 – 4 mins 30 (36 marks)HIGHER: 5 – 6 mins (36 marks)
