Dear Parent/Guardian

I am writing to inform you that the funeral for Claire Smith will be taking place at 10.00 am on Friday 28th February at St Michael’s Church in Macclesfield.

In light of the strength of Claire’s connection to our school, we know that our entire staff body will want to be present at this service and that many of our students and parents will also want to attend. As a result, I have chosen to take the exceptional step of closing the school on this date. We will reopen as normal on Monday 2nd March. A number of school events are scheduled for the 28th so we will move these to an alternative date and details about this will be communicated to students next week. The Battlefields trip will go ahead as normal (26th to 28th).

If your son/daughter is able to attend the funeral, please encourage them to do so in their school uniform. This will give Claire’s family a clear visual sign of the strength of support that exists for them right across our community. As Fallibroome was very much at the heart of her life, I know that Claire would have appreciated such a gesture too.

We have had a Book of Condolence open in school this week and many of our staff and students have used this to record their thoughts and memories about Claire. It is our intention to move this book to the main Reception desk for the whole of next week so that parents, ex-students, family friends, etc. can come into school and add their contributions. The Reception desk is open from 8.00 am until 4.00 pm if you would like to avail of this opportunity.

While we are always very reluctant to disrupt the school day in any way, we feel that is very important to offer our full support to Claire’s family at this exceptionally difficult time.

Thank you in advance for your understanding in this matter.
Yours faithfully
F POWER
