March 26th 2018, finally the day arrived; we had waited for what felt an eternity. On arriving at school at the eye watering time of 5am we were on our way to Marbella. On arrival in Malaga, we headed off to our hotel and waited in the sunshine to be shown to our rooms. The staff were so nice.
It wasn’t long before we set off to take part in the activities. The Hockey squads had a great start to the training and enjoyed defending with noodles. The Football squads travelled to Sotogrande (near Marbella) to do a training session and then play a match. The training session was very enjoyable with both squads completing passing and shooting drills. After the session, we played a Football match against one of the best academies in Gibraltar. Despite losing 3-1, the year 8s played well and had a few good chances. The year 9s also did ok with them being able to keep the score down to 2-0. A tiring day for all teams which finished with an evening BBQ and pool party which great fun but the water was freezing.
The Netballers had a fabulous Spanish coach who taught us some new defending drills which were extremely useful. The Footballers had a training session of their own followed by a match against a strong academy from Gibraltar. The year 9s fought hard and unluckily lost 4-0. Doing slightly better, the year 8s lost 4-1. In the afternoon all squads met up and visited the incredible Puerto Banus in Marbella. The weather was so hot but we still managed to spend all our money in the shops. The Footballers went back for a swim and chill and the Netballers headed back to the International school for a Netball match against an English school. The Netball teams completely dominated both games winning at a canter. Day two ended with all squads heading back to the boarding school for Paella, before heading back to the hotel.
The Footballers had yet another exciting training session in the morning before some close matches in the afternoon. The year 8s tried so hard and got an unfortunate 4-3 defeat. However, the year 9s managed to get a well-deserved 2-2 draw. Whilst this was happening the Netballers focused on shooting drills and finished off with a nice swim to cool down before the afternoon match vs. Cheadle Hulme. The Netballers again dominated both mathes only conceding 6 goals, whilst scoring over 80.
It was time for the Hockey squads to test themselves against Gibraltar Hockey Club. An early morning journey to Gibraltar was following by two excellent games. Both games evenly contested and very competitive. Game number one ended 1-0 and game number 2 ended 2-1.
On the final night of the tour all squads went bowling which was really enjoyable. The final evening was finished back at the hotel with great time with friends around a BBQ with the pupils from Cheadle Hulme School.
We had an early breakfast and headed for home. What an unforgettable trip
Students and staff from Fallibroome started their Easter break with a 4 day multi-sports tour trip to Marbella. The Hockey, Netball and Football squads had been preparing for weeks training hard on a Monday and Thursday after school in preparation for the tour.
An early start on Thursday was required to ensure we were ready to play and train in the afternoon. Credit must go to all students for their exemplary behaviour through the days travel.
Upon arrival at Malaga airport the Sun was shining and all pupils were extremely excited. The transfer to the hotel went smoothly and all pupils were checked in and ready to go at 13.00pm.
The Footballers headed off to be trained by Atletico Madrid with the Hockey and Netball squads travelling to Sotogrande International School for training with the International coaches.
Upon arrival the Football squad were told that if they wanted to they could play a Match against Manchester Gibraltar. They jumped at the chance meaning they had two extra games to play. Both games were extremely competitive, unfortunatly Fallibroome lost both games. The Hockey and Netball squads worked hard throughout their training session and were rewarded with a afternoon Swim. It was a fantastic and unexpected start to the tour for all involved.
Day two included two more Football fixtures, and training for the Hockey and Netball squads. The Footballers played against the Academy of Lincoln the current Champions in Gibraltar. They beat Celtic in the Champions League! Both the Y8 and Y9 teams had their work cut out playing against talented Footballers. Both teams gave a good account of themselves but unfortunately lost both games. The Netball and Hockey squads enjoyed a productive morning of training which included another swim before all squads departed for some down time visiting Puerto Banus.
The afternoon sessions started with the Netball flying the flag in competition against Leyland St Marys. Needless to say, our Netball girls did the school proud, winning both games comfortably. The Hockey squad continued to train hard in preparation for their fixtures on Saturday.
Saturday started bright and early for the Hockey squad as they had to travel Gibraltar to play their fixtures. Both Hockey squads had prepared thoroughly for these fixtures and headed down to Gibraltar with great optimism. Both games were keenly contested with clear chances few and far between. Fallibroome lost the first game 1-0 but drew the second game 1-1. A fantastic effort against some very good opposition.
The last night was filled with fun and excitement including a trip to the local bowling alley where competition between staff and pupils was rife before heading back to the boarding school one last time for a BBQ with Cheadle Hulme High School. A memorable 4 day trip for all that provided lasting memories and friendships.
