Riots and Rebels
Thursday 15th March 2018 to Sunday 18th March 2018
A Cross Arts International Theatre Festival
Following on from our highly successful cultural education project, which worked with local schools, we will be reaching out to students from further afield for our first ever International Theatre Festival. As a member of the International Schools Theatre Association, we are excited to be hosting students from schools across Europe and beyond, working together to explore the history of Manchester.
From the Peterloo Massacre of 1829 to the post punk music of Joy Division and the politically influential music of The Smiths, Manchester has been the scene of rebellion and revolution for centuries. The artists of Manchester have been at the forefront of fomenting an often highly charged response to prejudice and inequality and this festival will focus on the riots and rebels who have shaped the political landscape of the area.
“The Smiths was the most ordinary name and I thought it was time that the ordinary folk of the world showed their faces.” – Morrissey
