Welcome!

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Fallibroome community!

I am sure that you are excited about joining us and I am certain that you will enjoy your time here enormously. At Fallibroome, we take the transition and induction process very seriously and we have a team of staff who will work closely with you to make sure that you settle in and find new friends quickly. Our other students are hardworking, polite and very proud of their school. I know that they will make you feel very welcome here too.

My advice to new students is to get involved in as many extra-curricular clubs and activities as possible. There are plenty to choose from, so finding one to suit you should be easy. This will really help you to make friendships with other students who share your interests. Before long, you will feel like you have always been here!

Fallibroome has an excellent local and national reputation as ‘a place for excellence’. This record of success has been created by past generations of students who have worked hard and given their all to their school. We look forward to working with you as you help us to write the next chapter in our proud record as one of the best state schools in the country.

Headteacher

Wednesday 6th September 2023: The First Day

On the Wednesday, when the students join us officially as Fallibroome Academy Students, they need to report to the Tennis Courts no later than 8.50am. If you are dropping your child off at school I need to ask you not to come onto the school site for the safety of the other students. Students can be dropped off at the Leisure Centre Overflow Car Park and enter the school site there.

The form tutors will meet the students on the Tennis Courts and register them there. They will then have an assembly with Mr Power and other members of staff. During the morning, we will be giving the students their planners, timetables and IT login details. The tutors will spend part of the morning walking through the first days of the timetable to help the students with their orientation of the site.

During the afternoon we will spend time introducing the students to Google Classroom and talk to them about e-safety.

 Year 6 Questions Answered

We asked our current Year 7 students: “What advice would you give to a student joining year 7?”

Here’s some great advice written by our last bunch of “new students” to our next bunch of “new students”.

What happens if I get lost?
Don’t worry about getting lost, the school isn’t as big as it seems. In the first few weeks, the teachers and older students are always around to help point you in the right direction and there is a map at the back of your planner to help. It is also good to stay with your form at lesson changeover so you can all find your way together.
What happens if I’m not in a form with my friends?
You will make friends in your form quickly – you are with them for most lessons and your form tutor will help you all introduce each other. Don’t be afraid to speak to people either, they are probably just as nervous as you and want to make new friends.
How should I prepare myself for the school day?
We recommend packing your bag the night before so you don’t have to rush in the morning. It is also good to always write your homework in your planner and do it as soon as you can. This way, you can speak to your teachers or friends if you need any help. We would also recommend having a spare pencil and pen in case one breaks or gets lost during the day – this means that you will be extra prepared! It is also good to fill up your water bottle at lunch and break time so you are not late to lessons and don’t leave eating your lunch too late.
What can we do about bullying?
Bullying hardly ever happens at Fallibroome. However, if you feel like you are getting bullied there are lots of people who can help. The best thing to do is to speak to your tutor or Learning Manager straight away. Alternatively, you can go on the bully hotline on the school website. It is very important that you do not try to suffer alone. People are really friendly in the school and will do what they can to help you. The same goes if you see someone sat alone – go and talk to them and ask them if they would like to join in the activity or conversation you are having.
What extra-curricular clubs can I join?
There is so much on offer at Fallibroome. We would recommend you take full advantage, as it is a great way to make new friends who are interested in the same things as you. We have really good performing arts clubs and there are lots of opportunities to get involved in shows throughout the year. Don’t be worried to try something you’ve never done before either, you might get a new skill or hobby you really enjoy.
What happens if I want to be on the sports team?
It is important to go along to the extra-curricular clubs if you want to get picked for a team. The PE staff will see you are dedicated and it is a great way to improve your skills and meet new friends.
How should I impress my teachers in my first few lessons?
Make sure you follow the instructions and take part in the activities they set. Always have a go at answering questions and try your best – they will be impressed with this. It is also good to get into the routine of taking all of your equipment out at the start of lessons.
Can I use my phone at lunchtime?
We don’t allow mobile phones to be used around school. You are allowed to have them in your bag though and sometimes your teacher might allow you to use them in lessons. If you need to get in touch with your parents during the day, tell a member of staff and you will be allowed house one of the school’s landlines instead.
