Cultural Safari: Observing live practice and taking adventurous steps into the opportunities cultural education has to offer.

This was a CPD event like no other. Delegates were taken on an adventure around Macclesfield, pausing to observe and reflect on cultural education in real-life situations, from the classroom to the forest! Throughout the journey there were discussions on creative and practical issues, exploring ways to enhance the curriculum.

The day included:

  • Reflection on AIR 2014 and resources to set up ‘artist in residence’ projects
  • Presentations by students who have completed the Arts Award
  • Practical engagement with cultural workshops
  • Embedding cultural education into the curriculum, from the perspective of the school and the cultural practitioner
  • A sensory experience ‘Forest School’ – using the pedagogy of the arts & notion of collaborative learning to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Observation of a ‘live’ class in a primary setting.
  • Practical strategies to promote cultural education, including funding sources, timetabling and more…
